What is the Government Fee and why can't US Passport Now just charge me for it?

The government fee is something that US Passport Now can not collect on your behalf as it's a fee you are paying to the government directly for your passport and the expedited service request. The passport government fee is $170 ($110 for the passport & $60 to expedite the request) or $140 for children under the age of 16 ($80 for the passport and $60 to expedite the request). The Government Fee for a passport card is $30 for an adult or $15 for a child when applying for the book at the same time.

The government fee is paid in the form of a cashiers check or money order that is to be attached to the front of your forms when sending it to US Passport Now. Government Fee checks should be made out to "U.S. Department of State".
