Easy Methods To Add Passport Pages

Sunday, July 24th, 2011

Although a United States passport has thirty-two sheets when it is issued, they do tend to fill up quickly if one travels often. You may want to consider adding passport pages when you get to the last four or five sheets or a fast U.S. passport. Since some countries require quite a bit of space for their stamp or to attach a visa, you do not want to chance refusal of entry because your document does not have enough sheets.

Expiration Date

The expiration date of the travel document will help in deciding whether to add new passport pages. If your document will expire soon a pasport renewal rather than refills might be more sensible. Paying for refills and soon after having to renew the document is not very cost efficient.

Country Requirements

Even if the document is due to expire within a year, it is more cost effective to pay for a renewal rather than purchase a refill. Keep in mind when making your decision that some countries will not allow entry into their country if the document will expire within six months. Renewing the document nine months prior to the date of expiration will avoid any problems when traveling.

Renewal Cost

Also think about the cost to renew the document to the cost of refills. To purchase a refill will cost around eighty dollars and the renewal is about one hundred and ten dollars. If the travel document is soon to expire, your might want to renew.

Written Request

To ensure that you have enough pages, when you renew you can provide a written request to have extra pages included with the new passport. When the additional leafs are added this way there is no additional charge. However, if there is a lot of time before the travel document expires it may cost less to just purchase a refill.

24 Sheets

When you buy a refill, there are twenty-four more sheets added to the back of your travel document. Each passport can only have three refills. People who are frequent travelers might use up the allotted refills. If that happens, they will have to renew. If you need a refill while abroad, visit the closest US Embassy or Consulate.

Refill Application

If you are adding a refill an application must be completed, signed, and sent to the address given on the form. You must include payment for the refill with the application. After adding the refills, the Department of State will return the document in approximately six weeks. Expediting this process will cost an extra sixty dollars, and if you want to pay an overnight fee you can receive the document in about three weeks.

Cost Efficient

When you start to run low on pages in your passport, it is time to think about either adding them or getting an expedited American passport. Make sure to take into consideration the expiration date of the document when deciding whether to refill United States passport pages or to renew. Depending on the date of expiration, it may be more cost effective to renew rather than pay for refills.

Need To Add US Passport Pages To Your Passport?

Thursday, March 10th, 2011

You will need to add passport pages if you fall under either of these two categories: (1) you have less than two to four pages left in your passport, or (2) you are a frequent traveler in need of a new passport book. If you fall under one of the two, then you’ll likely want to know how to add passport pages to your current passport. Read on and we’ll show you exactly how to do it.

Let’s discuss the first category first. If you are a passport holder, and your passport has less than two to four pages in it, you’ll need to request additional passport pages. But why request pages so soon? That’s because it will save you a lot of time when you do that now, rather than when you are already about to travel.

There are two requirements when requesting for passport pages in this situation. First, you need to fulfill Form DS-4085. This is the form you fill in every time you need to request for additional passport pages. Once you are done filling in the details, you can then mail the DS-4085 to the address indicated in the form, along with your current US passport.

When applying for additional passport pages, you are not required to pay anything to have it processed. However, you will have to pay an additional fee should you decide to have your application expedited. When getting an expedited passport, make sure you write ‘EXPEDITED’ on the envelope before mailing it. Having it expedited cuts your waiting time from four to six weeks to just two to three weeks.

Now, on to the next situation. If you travel frequently, then chances are you quickly fill up your United States passport book faster than most people. In this instance, you need to apply for a new passport book once the passport pages run out. This will require a different procedure altogether.

If you are a frequent traveler in need of a new passport book, you will have to submit a signed letter requesting for additional passport pages. Then you will also have to mail it along with the completed DS-82 form, which allows you to apply for a passport by mail. However, if you are not eligible to do this, you can fill in the DS-11, and then submit it personally at the passport office.

When submitting your form by mail, make sure that you choose a traceable method of delivery. This ensures that your documents are received by the intended recipient. Also place your documents in an envelope that isn’t easily damaged, to ensure that it is in good condition once it arrives at the passport office for processing.

For a recap, first of all, you need to know under which category you fall under – whether you just have two to four pages left in your American passport, or you a frequent traveler in need of a new passport. From there, you’ll know the procedure that you need to go through. Now you know how to add pages to passport to your US passport.

Cycling In The City – The Best Places To Explore On A Bicycle

Tuesday, July 13th, 2010

Biking is a fun way to explore a city. It allows you to gain a much more intimate look at what makes the city tick, and it’s great exercise. By taking a ride off the traditional beaten tourist path, you are able to see what a city is really about. The following places all require a passport, but online service makes getting them easy. Everything from renewing passports to getting more passport pages requires only a few clicks.

Barcelona, Spain is an excellent place to discover on two wheels. One of the neatest things about this city is the unique bicycle public transportation system. A special card is obtained, and this card allows you to go to any of the 100 stations spread around Barcelona and check out a bicycle. This bicycle can be dropped off at any other station. An extensive system of bike routes makes Barcelona very bike friendly, and more routes are being added all the time. 3,250 street parking spots for bikes are available, and even more are being constructed underground. There is even a whole week dedicated to the bicycle, appropriately named Bike Week. Maps and independent routes make Barcelona one of the easiest cities to explore by bicycle, and after getting passports online, you can travel there yourself.

Sandnes and Trondheinm, both located in Norway, are extremely biker friendly. Norway is responsible for one of the most revolutionary bike-friendly inventions. They created a bike-lift, something that functions like a ski lift for skiers. Instead of having to pedal uphill in your business attire and risk getting sweaty and overheated, this lift pushes you uphill. Both cities are focusing on increasing bike traffic by means of increasing the safety, accessibility, and ease of use of bike lines. Both cities have a system where you can rent bikes, making traveling around the cities much easier.

Copenhagen in Denmark is one of the top cycling cities in the world. Nearly a third of all it’s residents bike to get places, as the biking system and its amenities are so convenient. In fact, in Copenhagen, you can rent a bike for free. Upon renting a bike, you pay a deposit, but this deposit is returned to you as soon as the bike is returned. In this sense, traveling around Copenhagen is completely free. The paths are plenty and extensive.

Amsterdam in the Netherlands is the hands-down best place to explore by bicycle. Almost 40% of all commutes are done by bicycle, and increased conveniences for cyclists are always being made. As the bike capital of the world, Amsterdam has a huge network of bike paths, all of which are very safe and quick. A huge, 10,000 spot bike garage is being built at the main Amsterdam train station, and with this improvement, more people than ever will be biking.

Exploring by bicycle is a great way to get a more personal view of a city. Plus, you don’t need to pay a cab or bus driver or take a subway. Getting your passports online opens windows all over the world, as well as granting access to convenient ways to get more passport pages or replace a damaged passport. Biking is something the whole family can enjoy, and with more bike-friendly cities popping up all over the world, you and your family can take advantage of it.

How Running Out Of Passport Pages Can Affect Your Travel Plans

Wednesday, June 23rd, 2010

For the international traveler, a passport really does mean access to a large number of things, from foreign countries to bank transactions and hotel bookings. Ask anyone who has lost a passport abroad and tried to do any of those. It can be done, but only after jumping through some irritating hoops. Passport pages are just as important for entering and leaving countries, as well as proving your travel history. A few overlooked facts about these pages can save you grief and ensure a good trip.

Water and other kinds of damage is the most common issue to arise with passport pages. The pages can become tattered after carrying the passport around in a pocket, as well. While this can seem trivial, a well-worn passport can capture the attention of customs and border officials in a negative way. You can avoid this by getting a cover for your passport that will protect it from the elements.

An even more pressing problem for travelers is simply using up all the space in their passports. This is especially troubling since most countries require a certain number of pages for entry or visas. This seemingly innocuous problem can actually prolong the process of getting to where you are going. A few precautions will help you avoid this scenario.

The easiest way to maximize the use of your pages is to point out where you would like the official to stamp upon entry. This can be a sticky business and might earn you some glares. However, if you politely approach officials in most countries and briefly explain that you are running out of pages, they usually will. If they don’t, just drop it, as these are not people you want to alienate. Over the long run, though, avoiding stamps that take up two boxes can really make the most of the space you have.

If you do see you are running out of pages, a quick stop by any embassy should remedy the situation. Most embassies will insert additional pages for free or a small fee. This service can usually be done during the same day. Make sure to do this well before you travel so you do not get in a bind. Depending on the country, there is usually a limit to the number of pages that can be added, so check with your embassy.

A lot of travelers enjoy looking back on the stamps they have acquired. These serve as reminders of where they have been, and in some cases, as badges of honor for especially difficult trips. Make sure to make a copy, however, in case of loss. Again, beyond the sentimental value, you may need a travel history down the line.

Also, be aware that damaged passports probably will not be returned to you. This can also result in losing the pages that you spent so much time acquiring. So, make a copy before you submit it in exchange for a new passport. Do not remove the pages, as this will usually be considered tampering with an official document.

Keeping your passport pages in good shape is part of ensuring a smooth trip. While it is not an everyday worry, check the status of your pages before heading out on a trip. This way, you won’t allow a little detail to cause you a big problem.

The Temple of Olympian Zeus

Greece is one of the most historically rich locations on Earth. With world famous architecture, art, food, cities, villages, and history, visiting Greece offers much more than the standard family vacation. As an international destination you will need to obtain a passport for every member of your family before you go. Once you’ve done that, all that’s left is to do is look forward to a great vacation.

When visiting Greece, it’s almost impossible not to see the famous buildings of the ancient times. We’ve all heard the stories of Greek mythology, and seeing some of the famous monuments for yourself will transport you back to a time when ancient gods and goddesses ruled the lands. The Acropolis is easily the most famous site in Greece. As a sacred dedication to Athena, this temple was built high on a hill to overlook all of Athens. Adorned with art straight from the hands of ancient Greek sculptors, it’s easy to see why this destination is so popular.

Athens is the hub of historical Greece. Named after its patron goddess Athena, this city is rich with historical sites. In fact, a whole portion of the city is for pedestrian traffic only. Beautiful neoclassical statues adorn the street corners, effectively bringing you back to ancient times. The food of Greece is world famous, and, of course, you will find no place better to sample the finest Greek cuisine than Greece. World famous architecture and art are on display for everyone to see, making wandering the streets of Athens an adventure in itself.

The beaches themselves are beautiful enough to attract visitors from around the world. People fly from all over just to be able to swim in the turquoise water and lay on the powdery sand. Simply looking up pictures of Grecian beaches will leave you breathless. Experiencing them for yourself, however, will show you just how spectacular they are. There are tons of public beaches all over Greece, and if you’re feeling particularly confident, you can opt for the local beach experience by visiting a nudist beach! The array of marine life and the amazing variation of underwater topography instantly makes any trip off of Greece’s shores an amazing adventure.

Obtaining a passport is important if you’re planning on visiting Greece. International travel has become internet friendly with the establishment of online passport services, making adding passport pages, renewing damaged passports, or simply obtaining a passport surprisingly simple.

The Quickest Way To Add Passport Pages

Tuesday, June 1st, 2010

When travelers are on their way out the door headed to the airport is not an ideal time to realize that new passport pages must be added to their passbooks. Anyone planning a trip requiring a passport should check the passbook to see if it needs more pages. These can be ordered and received with time left to spare before the trip, avoiding a potentially stressful situation.

Travelers who have less than two to four pages left in their passbooks are eligible to add more. People who travel regularly will know when they have reached this point but those who do not will need to dust off the passbook and take a look. If the book is filling up with stamps, it may be time to order additional sheets.

The process is relatively simple and requires only completing one government form, DS-4085, which can be found on the U.S. Department of State Web site. The form may be completed online and then printed, signed, and dated or the blank form may be printed and then completed by hand. Applicants who elect to complete the form by hand should make sure that all information supplied is legible. Anything that cannot be read by the government agents may cause a delay in processing times.

Those who do not have access to the Internet can obtain form DS-4085 from a Passport Agency or Acceptance Facility. In order to have the update made to the passbook, the completed DS-4085 form must be submitted with the current valid US passport. The addition of passport pages is free to users who opt for standard processing. The Department of State advises that applicants mail the documents using a mail service that provides confirmation of delivery.

The amount of time that is required to process these requests is between four and six weeks. Travelers who need the passbook back before that time can opt for expedited passport processing. This will provide them with the updated book within two to three weeks. The expedited service charge is $60.00 and may be paid via money order or check. The package must be labeled with the words “expedite” on the outside and the use of an overnight delivery service is recommended.

Travelers who are especially crunched for time should consider using a private company to speed the process of getting additional sheets for the passbook. These services can return the updated passbook to the traveler within two business days or less. However, getting this rush processing will cost the traveler several hundred dollars plus shipping charges, in addition to the $60.00 government expedited processing fee.

These companies will require that the applicant complete the DS-4085 form. The applicant will also need to complete a letter of authorization stipulating that the company may act on his or her behalf. In addition, proof of departure will be required if the applicant is requesting that the documents be processed in seven or fewer business days. A copy of the airline ticket, flight itinerary, or letter from an employer stating that the passport is required for business travel may serve as this proof.

The process of getting additional passport pages is not complicated, but it does require some time. It is best that a passbook holder complete and submit the DS-4085 form and passbook to the government as soon as the need for additional sheets is discovered. Expedited government processing or use of the rush service provided by a private company are alternatives that will shorten the processing time.

The London Experience

Wednesday, May 12th, 2010

My most memorable vacation that I ever went on was to London. Before I left, I spent a day getting US passport extra pages, packing my power converters, and exchanging currency. I had always wanted to go to London. Filled to the brim with culture and history, I became engulfed in this ancient yet novel city. Unlike some of the most populated cities we know today, London is refreshingly void of steel skyscrapers and smoggy factories. The week I spent there only knew sunshine and all I needed was to throw on a jacket. Everyday was something completely different than the one before, and as soon as I can get another opportunity, you can find me in London.

Some get discouraged from traveling due to all the processes involved. While I was getting additional passport pages, my mom was telling me how she disliked traveling because of all the planning that’s involved. However, once you spend a while exploring and experiencing, the stress becomes irrelevant. Trust me.

London is the epitome of the artistic world. Aside from the beautiful museums, monstrous statues, and breathtaking buildings, even the street art is amazing. Even though walking through London itself is like walking through a living museum, the museums of London are something you do not want to miss. If you have a love for art as I do, a whole week could be spent just exploring the various museums that populate the city of London. The Victoria and Albert Museum, or just simply the V and A Museum, holds pieces that span every facet of art: from ancient artifacts to fashion. Rooms filled to the brim with authentic historical pieces really put existence into perspective; it’s easy to feel pretty small when standing in the midst of artifacts hundreds or thousands of years old.

I also got to explore the Tate Modern Museum. Before I had explored it, I was generally disillusioned by the modern art I had previously experienced. However, stepping into this huge hangar-like building, I was instantly amazed by the variety of art that I saw in front of me. I spent hours not only looking at but also interacting with all the modern art, some laced with such powerful messages that left me feeling inspired.

The peak experience of my trip was getting to experience Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre. As an English major, I hold an engrossing love for William Shakespeare and his plays, and getting to see them performed at their home was a truly humbling experience. I decided that the “groundling” experience was the way to go, being a little short on money. I had hit the gift shop, and had let loose a little to much. How could I resist the “Montague & Capulet” tote bag? I couldn’t. The play was incredible, and although my feet ached a little, it was easily disregarded when getting to stand at the edge of the stage. The atmosphere was so unique, and there was a vast difference from the theatre experiences I had previously been acquainted with.

If there is somewhere you’ve always wanted to go, whether it’s London, Paris, or Tokyo, just go. Something is calling you there, and probably for good reason. So get yourself a new passport, pack your bags, and be ready for the trip of a lifetime.
